At The Church Within our primary desire is to build a community of passionate people living a life of service amongst.
bell hooks tells us in her book all about love, that M Scott Peck, begins his book The Different Drum: Community Making and Peace, with the “profound declaration: ‘In and through community lies the salvation of the world.’ That’s what I mean. On every level - individual, small group, community, and on up - here lies the salvation of the world. ... Peck defines community as the coming together of a group of individuals ‘who have learned how to communicate honestly with each other, whose relationships go deeper than their masks of composure, and who have developed some significant commitment to 'rejoice together, mourn together,' and to ,delight in each other, and make other’s conditions our own.'”
That's our aim! We get there through Sunday morning services that reach into various spiritual and religious traditions to provide a practical spirituality that impacts each of us as people and as part of a people. We get there through community collaborations that allow us to be of service far beyond what we could do alone, to create interesting experiences and engagements, and by creating events and gatherings that meet you right where you are.
We engage community through four pillars of service: HIV/AIDS outreach, social justice advocacy, Hunger and homelessness, and mental health. For a small church, we do a lot of work! We value everyone's gift, be it time, talent, or treasure!
Who's welcome here? You are! LGBTQIA, BIPOC, white folk, straight folks, all the folk and all religious and spiritual backgrounds... If those are your people, you're our people.
